L'Eau-xikon: How do I store my perfumes correctly?

A guide on how to keep your fragrances functioning over the years

Have you ever wondered where you should ideally store your fragrances, how to find the perfect perfume for you, where to apply it properly and what layering actually is? In the Osswald L'eau-xikon blog posts we answer the most frequently asked questions about the world of fine fragrances.

If you fall in love with a fragrance and buy it, you naturally want it to retain its high quality for as long as possible and smell as intense as it did on the first day. Perfumes generally have a very long shelf life due to their alcohol content and proportions of essential oils - especially in highly concentrated and high-quality products. Nevertheless, it can happen that a fragrance loses its intensity over the years or even goes bad, for example suddenly smelling rancid or 'turning off'. Make sure you store it optimally to avoid this and to enjoy your favorite fragrance for as long as possible.

The magic combination is: cool, dry and dark. For aesthetic or practical reasons, many people keep their perfumes in the bathroom. Unfortunately, this is not the right place to maintain quality. The bathroom is often warm and humid, which can damage your fragrance. Close to the heater or a place by the window is also not ideal, because heat and sunlight do not do fragrance essences any favors. The ideal storage location is a closet in the bedroom. For most people, the bedroom is the room with the least temperature fluctuations, and is often even kept cool to create optimal sleeping conditions. And what is good for your sleep is also good for your fragrance. A closet provides additional protection from environmental influences.

So keep your perfumes away from heat , direct sunlight , temperature fluctuations and humidity and enjoy them for years to come.
